Russian Railways targets to transform its operations and aims to be a high-tech company. The strategy is to create a new generation of automated jobs that will enable the company to automatically organise the transportation process and manage most aspects of their infrastructure.
In detail, they envision a system that allows them to obtain real-time and detailed information about their transportation operations, produces live updates of their production facilities, automating most operations and to be able to make management decisions that are augmented by human experts.
It is expected that they would be using their domestically produced Baikal and Elbrus microprocessors for the upgrade. The Baikal microprocessors is a line of microprocessors that were developed by Baikal Electronics, a spin-off of the Russian supercomputer company T-Platforms. The Elbrus line of microprocessors that is developed by the Bruk Institute of Electronic Control Computers, an affiliate of the concern Avtomatika.
Russian Railways secured an agreement for approximately USD$117 million under a loan programme administered by the Russian government for this purpose.
