According to the latest figures released by the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), Indonesia’s CPI score has dropped to what it once was in 2015, reversing all the good effort that was achieved from 2016 to 2019. Due to the drop in the CPI score, Indonesia’s CPI rank has dropped to 102th position in 2020, from 85th position in 2019.
Following the release of the CPI ranking, the Indonesia government has issued a reminder to their public and civil service about the need to be careful with such issues.
Previously, the Indonesia administration had implemented the idea of the Public Service Mall (MPP) which basically is to consolidate many related public service units under one roof. The set-up was supposed to ease the physical process of license application so that applicants only have to make a single trip to handle almost everything. Apart from that, the government has also been trying to simplify the digital and hardcopy processes in order to prevent corruption.
With the Covid19 pandemic ravaging across the entire globe, many countries have taken to setting up online business and government portals so that their public service could continue as usual. Additionally, these online portals also improve transparency of processes and could be a major aid to surfacing any illegal activities.
As such, the Indonesian government is starting to identify more permits and licenses from various agencies and integrate them into the new Online Single Submission (OSS) system. Local businesses reported that the such processes seemed to be faster and more efficient under the OSS system.
Their “Online Rakyat Aspiration and Complaint Service” portal was reported to be one of the most heavily used business portals within the public service. This portal allows the public to report incidents of corruptions and unsatisfactory public services.
