Indonesia has declared that they would be taking their EV eco-system further through more collaborations with state-owned enterprises and other business entities . This is believed to be in line with their plans to ensure national energy security by increasing reliance on domestic energy while reducing fuel imports.
On the government’s part, the relevant administration units will ready the required permits so that their incoming partners could start work as fast as possible. PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk through its unit, PT Medco Power Indonesia (MPI), will be managing the business through the approved Electric Vehicle (EV) Ecosystem Program. The company has also emphasised that the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem is in line with the company’s commitment to invest in a sustainable future and clean energy development. They will begin work by building a general EV charging station in Jakarta areas.
As of now the Indonesia government has already built 32 EV charging stations across 12 cities, as well as 33 EV Battery Exchange Stations spread across 3 cities i.e. Banten, Bandung, and Bali. The Indonesia government has also launched the Charge-IN platform, as an integrated electric battery charging system. It combines payment systems and charging point information together to improve users’ experience.
