As many are aware, Indonesia has become a battleground for the development and manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (EV). Right now, Indonesia encourages the production of nickel ore-related products, such as electric vehicle batteries, through local production capacity.
Since the declaration, many notable companies and countries have expressed interest , and somewhat started to invest in the country. The attraction of foreign interest is actually in line with the country’s interest to become the EV production hub of Southeast Asia by 2030.
Recently, a team from Indonesia visited Japan for working discussion on the possibility of including the Japanese in the country’s vision, this so even when Japan has already declared state of emergency because of Japan’s Covid-19 situation.
Indonesia has always been a place of interest for automobile and in the future, EV makers because of their growing workforce and also its proximity to Australia. Its a natural location for EV manufacturing because it provides perhaps the most returns for the potential sales volume to the Country Down Under.
In addition to that, Indonesia also owns one-quarter of the world’s reserves of nickel – a key material in the production of the batteries – and as a country, it controls the world’s largest reserves, ahead of Australia and Brazil.
The meeting was said to have taken place with representatives from Mazda, Suzuki, Honda, Mitsubishi and Toyota.
Truthfully, I can’t wait for an Electric Vehicle from Mazda. The Mazda 6 is seriously a looker.
