Representatives from United Kingdom and Indonesia met to discuss about the preparation leading up to the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). COP26 is an international cooperation that addresses the ESG issues that the world faces and also to encourage each other towards a zero carbon economy. The event is currently scheduled to take place in the city of Glasgow in November 2021 under the presidency of the United Kingdom
United Kingdom was reportedly very impressed with what Indonesia had achieved in the area of climate change and also with their commitments to reduce carbon emission. The two countries are studying the possibility of working out a joint leadership initiative in the field of forestry and agriculture, and might release the working details at a later stage.
Apart from this, United Kingdom also expressed interest in participating in Indonesia’s International Conference of Indonesia Forestry Researchers programme, which is a global network for environment scientists and people who are interested in tackling deforestation and forest degradation, restoring degraded lands and reducing waste. The network has planned to organise an international conference in September 2021.
