According to studies, many Russians have the habit of converting their personal identity documents such as vehicle registration certificates, passports, drivers’ licenses and others, to digital photo formats and then store these documents on their smartphones, cloud drives or in their email software.
It was concluded that this isn’t safe digital practice because information couldn’t be updated automatically and at times neither convenient for the public nor the authorities to retrieve. As such, Russia would begin testings to aggregate these personal identity documents onto a single mobile application, for the ease of daily use. Russia estimated that the mobile application would be fully launched by mid-2021.
