As Thailand continues to record new infections and deaths due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus, the country immediately leaps forward to scour for new ways to support the fight against the pandemic.
A third of the new cases since April have been from Bangkok, prompting health authorities to focus on the capital and three surrounding provinces, with the rest of Thailand’s 77 provinces already largely under control. The Governor of Bangkok was quoted as saying that currently, 1,291 patients were being treated at hospitals and field hospitals in Bangkok.
In the meantime, more field hospitals are being construct to support the ongoing medical operation and the government is leveraging sustainability initiatives and the circular economy, to further control the situation.
Combining creativity, innovation and sustainability in their medical operations, Thailand has started to encourage the use of recycled paper beds in the field hospitals for the Covid-19 patients to rest on.
With the help of the private sector, the government is setting up collection points where the Thais could donate waste paper for processing into recycled material. The recycled material is then used to manufacture the paper beds.
The government is encouraging its citizens to contribute to this initiative to show support and be part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
